Towards the construction of the new multipurpose centre
On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the press conference to present the project for the new Community House of Sant’Egidio in Lucca was held directly where the new facility will be built, on Viale Cavour in the premises of the former railway canteen next to the Lucca station.
The announcement was made by the president of the Lucca community, Michele Giannelli, who detailed the project for the new “house of friendship.”
The new multipurpose center will become a hub for the city’s poor, where those in need and those who want to help can turn to. The goal will be to welcome those who need not only assistance and practical help, but also sharing and friendship. In short, a place open (completely free of charge) to all citizens who need even simple information, support, and guidance.
This “new home” also aims to be a hub for promoting local meetings, conferences, and book presentations on social issues, from poverty to new urbanization to ways to combat marginalization and loneliness.
Sinergest supports the redevelopment of the new Sant’Egidio community home
“A comprehensive and important redevelopment and functional recovery project, which is also being brought to life thanks to the support of Sinergest For, the charitable heart of Sinergest,” said Marco Vannucchi, CEO of Sinergest, in his speech at the press conference. “It will be an important step for the Community, which in over twenty years of presence in the Lucca area has done and continues to do so much for those living in hardship. Not to mention the fact that a disused and long-abandoned building will be recovered and returned to the community of our city. Sant’Egidio is an association we have known well for many years and is a true gift to our city, so we have stepped forward to lend a hand. As Sinergest, we will work immediately to seek resources and assistance, seeking to involve the business world of Lucca and beyond, as well as supporting the community’s communication on this project and supporting it over time with direct contributions. The dream of a beautiful and comfortable place open to all, especially the most vulnerable, on the outskirts of our city, is also our dream.”
A few weeks ago, the Community of Sant’Egidio received formal authorization from Ferrovie dello Stato, the property’s owner, for the initial internal works and various routine maintenance interventions. This will finally allow the actual work to begin, with the initial goal of completing at least the work strictly necessary to make the center usable again.
